Rhythmatism - by Cheryl J

Most disgusting headline ever. Making fun of Travis Barker.

In a case of the poorest taste shown in "journalism", and I use the word loosely here, the New York Post posted the following headline in an article about Travis Barker, the Blink 182 drummer critically injured in a plane crash on 20 September.

Barker was released from the Atlanta burn center at the weekend. The "story" they were covering was to say that a rep for his ex-wife Shanna Moakler, confirmed they're driving to Los Angeles in a tour bus provided by Barker's band, Blink 182.

I'm all for puns in their proper place but this is nothing short of disgusting. Not only did Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein suffer serious burns, four others lost their lives. How anyone could think it's an appropriate thing to joke about is beyond me.

For those not familiar with Barker's talent, take a look at these...

"journalism" indeed . . . some people stoop too low in an effort to seem clever

I'm sure that one is going to backfire on them badly. Even people that despise their music is not going to find something like that funny or clever.

You can use a word other than "journalism" in this case. The New york Post has long been a discredited "journalistic publication." They have actually fallen to a level below tabloids like The National Enquirer, Star, and even The Weekly World News. At least those have an occasional entertaining story, even if they have many questionable ones. The Post is mostly questionable stories, little entertainment value, and some times even less taste.

This however just might be a new low for them.

Hey Cheryl

I`m often left disgusted by the media - but then everyone is out to make a buck these days so what more do we expect really? It`s when life becomes blaze like this that it becomes dangerous.

I`ve always LOVED drumming, and the last video... WOW, incredible! The best drumming I think I have seen was a set done whilst at a Nickelback concert. He was absolutely incredible!

Hey Gene, I was unaware of this site until I stumbled across this. If this is what they need to do to get readers, they can have it. This kind of thing disgusts me. I knew about the National Enquirer and stuff - I thought they were all about silly reports on aliens and three headed cows.

Yep Ruby, all class aren't they. Delightful!

Hi Ash, the various 'tabloid' media never ceases to amaze me with its never ending low reporting standards. But what does it say about people? They wouldn't print it if people didn't read it. I guess they aim at the lowest common denominator.

I'm a huge fan of drummers myself (my best friend is one so I'm completely bias in my opinions How great that you had such a fabulous experience at the Nickelback concert. Any concert that leaves you with the feeling you've seen something special is fantastic.

I'm off to see Stevie Wonder soon (again) and I'm SO excited about it!

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Cheryl,

LOL, The Enquirer is a mix of celebrity stuff, aliens, three headed cows, and even three headed alien cows. An occasional alien story can be fun though.

The New York Post however used to be a reputable newspaper. About a decade or so ago that all turned around though. I think they finally realized they couldn't compete with the NY Daily News and NY Times and said "Well, let's just make crap up and do stories in a controversial way to piss some people off so that they will talk about us." they may have gotten new ownership about that time too, but I could be wrong. Anyway, nowadays they are a major waste of trees and that's about it.
