Isn't it obvious when it isn't meant to be? Casey Donovan for one, George Bush another example. This has never been more relevant than one band which defines my annoyance; The Cure. I've heard that their song All Cats Are Gray is a favourite choice for the would-be suicidee. When people want to die after they listen to your music, IT ISN'T MEANT TO BE.
Each and every song is thoroughly depressing. Most, nay, ALL bands have several gears. Even the aforementioned Casey Donovan (for those non-Australians, this isn't the well-known gay porn star that Telstra would have you believe, but the very attractive Australian Idol 2 winner) has several gears; plain awful and utterly disgusting. The Cure has one; depressing.
To put it into perspective, I wish to slice myself like a Christmas turkey (season's greetings by the way) every time I hear Pictures Of You or Friday, I'm In Love. Very few songs have this effect on me usually, David Hasselhoff being one, but for completely different reasons. Secondly, Mr (Mrs.) Robert Smith, just because you have been influenced by David Bowie does not give you permission to put on some makeup and get into a dress. There was a reason that Bowie did that, and he grew out of it in about an album or so. You're on TWELVE and counting. Citing Bowie as an influence does not give anyone (read: Brian Molko) automatic rights to dress like a woman. This is suppose to be rock 'n roll, not a night at the Stonewall!
So, in conclusion, Princess Smith, if you're life is so depressing, quit telling us about it. If people are dying from your music, then take a hint. Go jump.

they write their emo music and make the other emos want to die even more, which might not be so bad depending on how you look at it. but the music is annoying!
Since they will just sing about theyre depresson and suicidalness (is that a word?) but wont actually go kill themselves i think we should do it for them, at least it would make them shutup!
congratulatons on yet another amusing blog

This is a funny post, but what can I say? I like the Cure, and it's never made me want to commit suicide (Casey Donovan on the other hand...)
"Friday I'm In Love" is actually pretty upbeat. And what about their other cheesy '80s stuff like "Love Cats" and "Let's Go To Bed"? That stuff's not depressing at all.

Good to see you again.

Hellvis, I'm glad we have the internet. Discussions/argeum,ents are always so nice. If it were face to face, I'd probably be at anyone who argued against me with the closest sharp object. Yes, I suppose some Cure songs are alright, but still they all depress ME. I'll take a listen to the 'cheesy' stuff though, since you always seem to know what you're talking about. Danke.
And yes, katyzzz, I have returned, not that I was away for that long, but I pop up here, there and everywhere (kind of like David Koch. Grr)
Thankyou for the comments all.

You might also be less offended by the Cure's earlier punkier stuff from the Three Imaginary Boys album (fruity title I know) It's a bit gutsier (but not by much).
Still, we wouldn't be upholding our duties to music snobbery without hating some stuff with equal intensity to the stuff we love. Thanks for the discussion.
