Rhythmatism - by Cheryl J

Transition Transmission

I was incredibly bored today, notably due to the lack of decent viewing on Nine or Ten (Seven I took for granted), and so I decided that it was time for another post. I was told my last one was "dripping in ego", but I would have described it as "a work of absolute genius."

Inspired by a new vinyl I bought returning from a job interview today (even the mighty must support themselves!), I have decided to enlighten thee on the glorious album that is David Bowie's Station To Station. It is, Barbara Streisand's Greatest Hits not-withstanding, my favorite album ever to have been created. It is sheer genius.

I know that these lazy Orble bloggers are attached to Wikipedia like David Hasselhoff clinging to his dwindling fame, so I read up on Station To Station. They said:

Station to Station is an album by David Bowie originally released by RCA in 1976. The album featured a bleaker version of Bowie's soul persona, called The Thin White Duke. By the time of its recording, Bowie was heavily dependent on drugs, especially cocaine. It has been alleged that Bowie was suffering from cocaine psychosis during this period and does not remember the production of this album; often, Bowie has blamed his addiction on a lack of judgment while being introduced to the substance in America. However, Station to Station presented a new direction in Bowie's music, with a use of synthesizers and electronic rhythms that leaned toward German pop music.

Why is this a personal favorite? Easy. The one line "Its not the side-effects of the cocaine / I'm thinking that it must be love" not only applies to my relationship with Kate Moss, but pretty much this entire album. There are only six songs on the album, and each is excellent.

Personal favorites include "Stay", which sounds like "Fame" on crack - there is probably the only long guitar instrumental ever on a David Bowie album, while "TVC15" relates to something everyone can relate to, a TV that ate the girlfriend??? "Golden Years" is also a pretty decent track, if you listen to it a few times, you just have to keep listening, it takes your soul - rather like the Internet.

Anyway, I do believe decent television/food is served, and I must go and see to my obesity. Until then, I leave you with a link to David singing TVC15 here, and a curt thank you for voting and commenting and clicking on the god-damned Google Ads!

Kylar,

I'm not sure that I always understand you, the generation gap you know, but as I like Rhythm you've got my vote, the K is attractive too.

katyzzz, your friend

katyzzz, yes the letter K is spellbinding, truly.
Please tell me that you like David Bowie, I struggle to understand people who don't! (but I can accept, begrudgingly)

My humour is a little strange, sometimes...

PS: This sentence is bold for no reason.

I don't dislike David Bowie, I'll get a friend of mine to fill me in. He'll know all about him.

David Bowie floats between genius and irritation for me, but I like it when he does cameos. He is an appropriately spooky looking guy...

Yes, I guess I agree there. Some of his later 80's and early 90's music was pretty horrendous, and he always seems to pick strange movies to appear in.

Labyrinth made me laugh though.
