Lean On Me - Bill Withers

Lean on Me is a classic hit song written and performed by Bill Withers on the 1972 album Still Bill. Ranked number 205 on the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time the original version of the song has become a popular inspirational anthem and would be Withers' first, and as it turns out - only, Billboard Hot 100 number one single.

There have been a number of cover versions recorded in Mud (1976), Al Jarreau (1985), Club Nouveau (1987), dc Talk (1992), Michael Bolton (1994), Bonnie Tyler (1999), Anne Murray (1999), and Limp Bizkit (2005). Country singer Kenny Rogers has performed the song at his concerts, but has not released a recording. R&B group Club Nouveau covered the song and took it to number one on the Billboard charts in 1987. The 1987 Club Nouveau version won a Grammy award

Very cool Rihanna video you've probably never seen.

Is she beautiful? Undoubtedbly. Does this photo make her look both innocent and sexy? Absolutely. Can I share a little secret with you? The more observant of you may have noticed already.

Umbrella - Rihanna or Mandy Moore - which do you prefer?

Even though the song has been doing the rounds for a while now Rihanna's Umbrella has been getting a lot of airplay lately. I have just recently discovered Mandy Moore did a cover version.

I've put up both versions, which one do you prefer

Gnarls Barclay videos for Crazy and Run

Crazy is the first ever single to top the UK singles chart purely on download sales as it was released online a week before it was released as a CD single.

The filmclip is a personal favourite. A clever animation of the creators portrayed in Rorschach inkblot style. It's innovative and matches the funkiness of the song perfectly

Monk's Mood

I have returned from Vanuatu, fresh and renewed in my attempt to become as vain and bitter as possible. I have also returned with souvenirs. And a tan. And some mosquito bites. Ouch. Anyway, as I promised earlier, I shall post a jazz themed post this one time. I volunteer at a jazz radio station, a great little place with a whole three listeners - an old lady and her two cats. (If that same old lady happens to be Prince Charles, I wouldn't be the least surprised).

However, the album in question is a recently discovered one
