Hendrix in sex scandal 38 years after his death?!

US porn company, Vivid Entertainment, is reportedly releasing a 40-year-old amateur sex video that allegedly stars legendary musician Jimi Hendrix and two women. The LA based company and largest adult film producer stated that it obtained the tape from a collector. Although they say the tape has been authenticated, by an ex-lover and the notorious Cynthia ‘Plaster Caster’ (who is famous for making plaster molds of the appendages of many famous rock stars including Hendrix), the authenticity has already been disputed by a former girlfriend and a number of collectors and historians.

According to the NY Times, Kathy Etchingham, who was a steady girlfriend of Hendrix, has checked out stills taken from the film and said that the features of the man in the footage do not match. According to her the face and nose of the man are broader than those of Hendrix.

As we all know from the endless rounds of emails of the Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson sex tape videos, celebrity sex is a profitable element of the adult entertainment industry. There have also been numerous look-alike hoaxes and without any of the parties involved in the making of the tape confirming its validity, who knows? The public certainly seems to thrive on these home movie celebrity sex videos, and coupled with a desire to know every salacious detail of dead celebrities, I have no doubt this will sell whether it is authentic or not.

Hendrix, one of the most influential guitarists in rock history, died in 1970. Although his drug use was well known and he was rumored to use heroin, LSD and amphetamines, Jimi died by inhalation of vomit caused by barbiturates, the sleeping tablet Secanol. There was no evidence of heroin in his blood and no needle marks.

Hendrix was known for his virtuosity with the guitar; he played a right-handed Fender Stratocaster upside-down and left-handed, developing a style known for using distortion and feedback. He was also one of the first musicians to experiment with stereophonic and phasing effects during recording.

In 2006, his debut USA album, Are You Experienced, was inducted into the United States National Recording Registry and Rolling Stone Magazine named him number 1 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003. In 1992 he was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.

Although he lived the ‘sex and drugs and rock and roll’ lifestyle, in my opinion the release of the tape, even if it is genuine, is completely tasteless and shows yet again that the public seems more interested in scandal rather than genuine talent.

Hendrix was known as a legendary c*cksman in his day; If anything I'm surprised it's taken this long for a sex tape with him to ooze up to the surface. After all, it was the 60s.

How do you think the Plaster Casters got their subjects "prepared" for casting in the first place? It sure wasn't Playboy magazines.

My question is, what's the point?! The man was a human being as well as a legendary musician. Whatever happened to respect for the dead?

Hi Morgan

I don't know why anyone would want to watch it either...but then I never watched the Paris or Pamela ones. I have no interest in that shit.

Thanks!

Hey D

Great description! Yep he was pretty much as legendary with the ladies as he was with the guitar. I doubt he would have had any problems with being seen getting it on. As you said, he whipped it out for good old Plaster Caster. And what musician from the sixties wasn't into it. It was the time of free love.

But yeah you got my point. He was a person, he is dead and can't object or authenticate. There is just no respect.

Thanks for the comment.

I love this:

The LA based company and largest adult film producer stated that it obtained the tape from a collector.

A collector of sex tapes? What a past-time.

Jimi was the man with a master plan... still, after all these years, his solos remain locked on their lofty pedestals.

He was a player, though, living through the 60s embracing the ideals of free love. I'd still enjoy watching the video, I think.

Hi Ruby, I never thought of it that way. I went back and reread the article in case it was just my abysmal writing skills that made me leave out the words 'collector of rock memorabilia' or some such but it just said collector. Eeuw, maybe they do just collect sex tapes. What a weird hobby that would be. The phrase 'different strokes' just popped into my head but in this context it makes it sound even worse haha.

Cibbuano, his solos will always be a standout. They were pretty groundbreaking. If you watch the video let us know if you think it really is him!

Hi Peter, it is weird but not unexpected. If it wasn't for a respectful fan recently, Marilyn Monroe's tape would be plastered all over the net but someone bought it so that it can never be released. I have enormous respect for that person.

Morgan, you sleaze-bag you haha. I would rather watch anyone fall down stairs than watch Paris Hilton have sex. Although watching Paris Hilton falling down stairs might make for fun viewing.

Nah I understood what you meant, it's just funny when read literally.

I also love Cib's admission:
I'd still enjoy watching the video, I think.

Go Cibby!

he was one of my heroes...
the other two main heroes of my life, back then, were, Janis Joplin and Jimi Morrison...

yes, I had a very bad couple of years as a fan....

Hendrix, because of the mountain size of his talent and true ingenuity, his genius, will always tower over whatever crap gets thrown at him.

Frankly, if the tape is released, with Hendrix as the sound track, I think I could easily imagine him laughing about it!

Hey Fog

As I noted on Music Dime's post on Janis Joplin, Janis, Jimi and Jim were the legendary Three J's who were all remarkable talents and all died from drug related deaths at 27. Weird coincidence but a huge loss to the world of music. I think you're right, the sheer scale of talent would overcome all the shit.

Being the sixties I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't tapes of all three at some stage.

The funny thing is, it's very doubtful it's even him ( a black man with an afro, bandanna and lots of rings in a dimly lit room - it must be him hehe) but alas, no music soundtrack. Being the pants man he was, if it was him he probably would have laughed!
