Rhythmatism - by Cheryl J

Gnarls Barclay videos for Crazy and Run

Crazy is the first ever single to top the UK singles chart purely on download sales as it was released online a week before it was released as a CD single.

The filmclip is a personal favourite. A clever animation of the creators portrayed in Rorschach inkblot style. It's innovative and matches the funkiness of the song perfectly.

Gnarls Barkley is actually two people; Cee-Lo who was originally part of the Atlanta hip-hop group Goodie Mob, and Danger Mouse who has produced for a number of hip-hop artists, including the Gorillaz' Grammy winning album Demon Days. Meeting in 2003 when Cee-Lo was on a tour for which Danger Mouse happened to be the DJ, they began working together on what would become the St. Elsewhere album under the name Gnarls Barkley for their project as a duo. The collaboration's name came from friends, "making up fictional celebrity names like Prince Gnarls and Bob Gnarley." When someone came up with the name Gnarls Barkley, they hit on a winner.

St. Elsewhere has been certified Platinum by the RIAA for selling over 1,000,000 albums in the U.S.

Crazy was released as their first single on April 3, 2006, preceded by its release as digital download and 12" Vinyl record single in March 2006. It gained popularity BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe's television advert, and it was also made Record of the Week by Ken Bruce of BBC Radio 2.

For their American television debut on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on May 24, 2006, the band performed Crazy. Then along with Christina Aguilera, AFI, and Wolfmother performed at the MTV Movie Awards 2006. In October 2006, Gnarls Barkley recorded a live session for Live from Abbey Road at Abbey Road Studios.

Watch and enjoy.

This clip is of the the single Run from the 2008 release The Odd Couple

Now watch closely and see if you recognise the not so hip announcer...no? A clue? I'll just say that we are seeing a lot of JT around lately.

Another catchy tune with a great video.

Sit back, hit play and enjoy the audio / visual fabulousness of Gnarls Barclay.

I'm so into that first clip, it's mesmerising. Even more so with the fact that I have had very little sleep and I think I'm on the edge of hallucinating.

Took me a minute or two before it clicked about JT. I knew he was familiar but different.
