Rhythmatism - by Cheryl J

Best Rewrite of a Song Ever!

Leslie Feist is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She performs as a solo artist under the name Feist and as a member of the indie rock group Broken Social Scene. Best known for her song "1234" (pronounced "One Two Three Four") a song from her third studio album, The Reminder which was used by Apple in an iPod nano commercial. It also appeared in an Australian commercial for eBay.

Prior to the Apple iPod Nano commercial airing, The Reminder was selling at approximately 6,000 copies per week, and "1234" at 2,000 downloads per week. Following the commercial, the song passed 73,000 total downloads and reached No. 7 on Hot Digital Songs and No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100; The Reminder jumped from No. 36 to No. 28 on the Billboard 200, with sales of 19,000. Following the television advertisement for the iPod nano in the UK, the single beat its original chart position of 102 to become number 8 in the UK charts. Time magazine named "1234" one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007, ranking it at number 2.

Feist was nominated for a Grammy Award for the category Best Female Pop Vocal Performance with "1234". This song was #19 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007."1234" also won the Juno award for Single of the Year on 6 April 2008

Even though it is undoubtedly Feist's most successful single, the song was actually written by Sally Seltmann, a Melbourne, Australia singer-songwriter who records under the name New Buffalo. Sally Seltmann has received a nomination for 2008 APRA's (Australian Performing Right Association) peer nominated, Song Of The Year Award. Feist added and rewrote parts of the lyrics.

Everyone has heard the song played countless times due to its high exposure but have you seen the version Feist performed on Sesame Street to teach kids to count? She said working with the muppets was a career highlight.

Hey

Not quite sure how it all came about - but not only did Apple use it as part of its campaign - but so did ebay - talk about sending mixed commercial messages.

Think someone needed to have Apple's people talk to Leslie Feist's people talk to ebay's people talk to Seasame Street's people . . . catchy little ditty all the same - whoever owns the rights.

Cheers

I know MNG, all very confusing. My only hope is that the Australian musician who wrote the song is absolutely rolling in residuals!

Plus, I love anything Muppets!
