Rhythmatism - by Cheryl J

Favourite Albums

Everyone has them. Even people from Tasmania. It's a favourite album, the one you cherish above all else, so when the world comes to a crashing conclusion (when Barry Manilow starts singing), and you can only pick one album to take with you on the road-trip to the pearly gates, it would be this. Being me, at least five times (if not more) more important than everyone else, I have compiled my list of five of my favourite albums (although pay by credit card and I'll throw in a second five absolutely free, the first five hundred thousand callers get a useless kitchen grate also.)

#5 - Horses

Artist: Patti Smith
Favourite Songs: Gloria, Redondo Beach, Land

There you have it. The complete and compiled 2006 favourite albums guide. Now, I know this particular post hasn't been particularly amusing, so I shall leave you with a joke; Judge Judith Sheindlin. It is now your turn, do tell me what your favourite album/albums are...

PS: I shall be somewhat absent for the next five days. But never fear (or otherwise), I shall be back with a jazz themed post in a week. Always watching...

dear, dear, dear. I've heard of one of those albums and like three of those bands. And that Linkin Park album is quite poor.

You know I joke. You go ahead and like your music, but that won't stop me sending you CD's of good music, even if you do end up moving across three different timezones.

Kylar,

From the cover alone, Little creatures. Must confess I don't know what I'm talking about!

I just like to listen when things appeal to me.

I'll take some advice on this one.

I'm sure there is one album you must truly love.
What type of music/bands/artists are you into?

You might want to see this page of the most AWFUL album covers ever. It WILL offend.

Kylar,

Greate taste!! 3 of these artists i love (fav songs in brackets)

Talking Heads (Take me to the River)
David Bowie (Golden Years)
Roxy Music (Avalon)

I was working at the now defunct Brashes at the time; ahh memories...

These days, i'm into Heather Nova, Skunk Anansie and a resurgence of Kiss, and always The Doors (and Jim's poetry) .. strange combo..

Thanks for the link to the worst album covers, i have a friend who will love these; i know i did, cracked me up..

dog-eared you, I'll be back...

Thanks for dropping in Lily. Yes, I love ALL those songs, especially Golden Years. Avalon works nicely for me, as does Take Me To The River.

Ha! I too love The Doors, their first album is incredible (except Alabama Song and Back Door Man), but my favorite song of theirs is Riders On The Storm (off LA Woman?)

Thanks for the drop-in...

Howdy Kylar,

It's so hard to pick favourites. Having said that, my favourite album of all time is probably Zen Arcade by Husker Du.

It's a punk concept album with a stupid premise (like all the best concept albums) but has almost everything I like on it: melodic folky songs, intense hardcore, balls-out rockin', experimental guitar sounds, and PASSION, PASSION, PASSION. I won't even hold it against them for being a precursor to emo because this album started so much more.

P.S. Shame on me. I've only got Horses out of those five. I definitely need more Bowie and Talking Heads. And I suppose you know that the Replacements were sort of friendly rivals of Husker Du.

Ola Hellvis...

Yes, I have heard of Husker Du, but I haven;t heard their stuff. I SHALL look it up right now (as opposed to cleaning the dishes). I also knew about their rivalry, and ALSO completely agree with you about silly premises for concept albums (Read: Bi-sexual alien from Mars...)

Horses is an excellent album, and there are so many Bowie and Heads albums that are worth it.

Thanks for dropping in...
