Rhythmatism - by Cheryl J

30 Years of Number Ones in Aus, UK and US for the week ending 12 October

I thought it might be fun to make a number one hit list for the past thirty years for each week. If people show interest it will become a regular feature. If you want me to go back further just tel me how far but I can only go back as far as charts were made! Or give me a date and I'll let you know the songs for Australia, UK and the US.

It's funny to see where there are cross overs but it seems the Aussies have more in common with musical taste with the Brits rather than the Americans. It's also good to see a few people made it into the charts more than once. I can't imagine how many times that will happen when the weeks start to spread out.

Some of them are hilarious, some are just plain cringeworthy and especially for the younger readers, some of them you will never have even heard of...and in some cases that's probably a good thing!

%% Oh, oh, Sheila - Let me love you till the morning comes. Oh, oh, Sheila - You know I want to be the only one. %%

Yes that is one of my favorites on that list.

Great idea Cheryl. Of course the U.S. list differs from the UK and Australia lists so much. Things here are so much more commercial, so the better stuff doesn't always make it through.

Couple things. . .
1) You should list the week it is for. Like is this list October 6-12, or 13-19?

2) I might suggest going back to 1970 (or 68 if you want to keep it an even 40 years). there is so much good music between 70-77 that we'd be missing out on.

3) My request for a specific date is easy since it is either your current list, or the next list you post. What was the list on October 18th. Even if you don't use my above idea of going back to 1970, please include 1971 in this request.

1973 - Can The Can - Suzi Quatro
1972 - Boppin' The Blues - Blackfeather
1971 - Daddy Cool - Drummond
1970 - In The Summertime - The Mixtures

UK
1977 - Silver Lady - David Soul
1976 - Mississippi - Pussycat
1975 - Hold Me Close - David Essex
1974 - Annie's Song - John Denver
1973 - Eye Level - The Simon Park Orchestra
1972 - Mouldy Old Dough - Lieutenant Pigeon
1971 - Maggie May - Rod Stewart
1970 - Band Of Gold - Freda Payne

US

1973 - Half-Breed - Cher

I totally missed the date in the title, but you have to remember it is currently 5:43AM here lol.

See, now those additions were worth it. Got two mentions of Abba in there, a song about a Rat, another about a dancing duck, Hutch getting a hit in the UK. . . and strangely enough Donna Summer topping the charts in Australia, while Olivia is on top in the U.S., but neither placed in their own country for the additional time span. Oh, and Leather Tuscadero <PERK>.

BTW, the song in my previous comment was
U.S.
1985 - Oh Sheila - Ready For The World

Like I said, my third request was an easy one. (Apparently my first one was too, since the date was already there.)
